New shop opens in Burton
Charity shop, what charity shop? That’s been the reaction from the first customers at our new look furniture outlet in Burton-upon-Trent.
The shop at 12 Lichfield Street is the first of its kind we have opened.
Amy Valentine, retail area manager, said: “Customers keep saying they cannot believe it is a charity shop. It is more like a boutique department store with different sections for each aspect of the home and easy to shop room settings.”
The shop is divided into four areas – Eat, Sleep, Relax and Work & Play – filled with furniture and accessories. It is the first time the charity has used this layout in one of its stores. The opening hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
Amy added: “If you are decluttering or clearing a house we offer a free collection service. Smaller goods can be dropped off, including clothes which we send to our local shops where they are sold.”
As well as donations, the shop in Staffordshire is appealing for local people to join the team of volunteers who sort goods, serve customers and organise internet sales of items. To find out more phone 01283537089.
“The air ambulance receives no government funding. Each time the helicopter undertakes a transfer it costs £2,800 so the money raised in our charity shops is a vital source of income to keep them flying. The more support people in the Burton area can give us the more lives we can save,” Amy said.
The Children’s Air Ambulance is the only dedicated paediatric inter-hospital helicopter transfer service in the country. It receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations to help it continue to save little lives.
