Volunteers sought as Mayor opens Archway shop in London

The national Children’s Air Ambulance has opened its revamped charity shop in Archway and is urging the community to get behind it by volunteering in store or by donating quality items.

Deputy Mayor of Islington Councillor David Poyser performed an official opening after a three-day transformation that gave the store a fresh look, feel and a brand new range of stock.

“I am honoured to open this charity shop,” said Cllr Poyser. “From this store we are going to raise money and do fantastic work. It is so crucial and I look forward to this shop becoming a fantastic part of our community.

“The Children’s Air Ambulance is very much needed. It’s about getting very poorly children to the right care as safely and as quickly as possible. This store enables us all to help towards that goal.”

The shop offers a range of men’s and women’s fashion, homeware, accessories, books and bric-a-brac and staff have issued an appeal for volunteers to support the shop through their time or donations. People can pick up a donation bag in store which they can take away, fill with items for the charity to sell and help raise much needed funds.

The Children’s Air Ambulance receives no government funding and relies solely on public support. It serves as a flying intensive care unit by transferring critically ill children to the time dependent specialist care they need wherever it is in the UK. It also transports specialist care teams to children who are too ill to fly.

As well as financial donations, the charity needs the income from its chain of boutique charity shops to keep operating and give children the best possible chance of survival. Each rescue mission it undertakes costs approximately £2,800.

People are invited to visit the shop at 31 Junction Road, London, N19 5TA. It is situated across the road from Archway tube station.
