Marathon Runners Help to Keep Hope Alive

The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA) has been unveiled as a charity partner of the Asda Foundation Leeds Half Marathon and is now offering runners the opportunity to take up one of its sought after event places.

The Leeds Half Marathon, now in its 34th year and organised by Run For All, takes place on Sunday 12th May and TCAA wants people to be a part of its “crew” on the day.

The charity is offering 20 guaranteed places at a cost of £25 each and the event is open to runners of all abilities and ages.  Starting at The Headrow in Leeds city centre, the route takes the field outside of the centre along Abbey Road and Kirkstall Road before finishing at Millennium Square

TCAA is a unique national charity flying critically ill babies and children from hospitals such as Leeds General to another for specialist care. It is the only dedicated neo-natal and paediatric helicopter emergency transfer and is based in the north (Doncaster) and south (Oxford) of the country.

The free of charge service works closely with NHS transport teams, such as Embrace in Yorkshire, to help fly neo-natal and paediatric patients to specialist treatment thanks to the bespoke equipment on board which turns the helicopters into flying intensive care units.

When a child is too sick to fly, TCAA can also fly a specialist team to the patient.  With flight times commonly around four times quicker than a transfer by road, the time saved means a life saved.

TCAA is also seeking to recruit 10 volunteers to help support and marshall this event while asking runners already registered to choose Children’s Air Ambulance as their charity of choice.

Help us keep hope alive for our patients by joining our team today. If you have already secured your own place but would like to run for us and support The Children’s Air Ambulance please call us on 0300 304 7729 or email Sharon.evans@theairambulanceservice.org.uk

We are the only helicopter emergency transfer service in the country dedicated to children.
