Since he was two years old, Josh has been a huge superheroes fan. But to his mum Claire, he really is the superhero.
Josh suffers from a number of serious medical conditions including hemiplegic migraines which have affected him for the past seven years. The attacks – which can strike at any time – are a symptom of a rare genetic condition he was born with.
When he had a severe hemiplegic migraine on 22nd October 2017 doctors advised that Josh urgently needed specialist treatment in a paediatric intensive care unit.
It took just 25 minutes for the Children’s Air Ambulance to fly him from Margate to the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London.
He had previously been transported to the hospital by road which was a long, bumpy, uncomfortable two hour journey which Josh found very distressing.
“When we were told about the air ambulance transfer I was so relieved that we wouldn’t have to experience the lengthy journey by road again and Josh would avoid extra suffering,” says Claire.
Since undergoing emergency surgery Josh has spent months in and out of hospital. To celebrate how “super and strong” he has been throughout his illness and recovery periods his family and friends dressed up in superhero tops and enjoyed a meal fit for a superhero in Josh’s favourite restaurant.
Mum Claire hopes that by sharing Josh’s incredibly brave story you can see the difference your support really makes. By giving a gift today, you can help more superhero children like Josh.
